23rd UKA British Fell and Hill Relay Championship 2011

What a wonderful day it was, the 23rd UKA British fell and Hill Relay Championship held Saturday 15 October 2011 will be remembered by all who were involved; competitors, spectators, Kettlewell local community, marshals and organisers.
Congratulations to the Dark Peak team on their domination of the senior category - winning the event overall, our own club  Bingley Harriers on winning the ladies category helped by a storming run by Mary Wilkinson on the last leg, Borrowdale winning the veteran O/40 category and finishing 7th overall and Dark Peak also taking the veteran O/50 category. Thank you to all the club contacts, team captains, representatives and runners for making the event a memorable day.

A full report will be published later, here and in ‘The Fellrunner’ magazine.

The results for the 2011 British Fell & Hill Championship relays are now available on the Sportident web site.

The photographs on the Photo Gallery have been taken by Mick Watson who also set up the website, cheers Mick, great job.

I think now is the appropriate time to thank the organising committee; Adrian Rushworth, Stephen Firth, Ken Robinson, Barbara Carney, Graham Smith and Steven Carney, all of whom worked incredibly hard together with enthusiastic assistance from other, too many to mention individually, helpers who made up the team responsible for the success of the event and who gave up their time to help.

Also, thanks to Phill Helliwell of Bingley Harriers and his two colleagues for taking on the roll of event Doctors.

Next year the relay will be hosted by Mercia and we wish them all the best with their promotion.

I have a number of items of lost property left on the event field, if anyone has an item missing, the list is on the FRA forum or give me a ring, 07972 787161.

We would like to welcome you back to the Yorkshire Dales for the Wharfedale TTT three day event which will probably be held on the first weekend in July (check with the Fixture List) and is a very sociable series of three races using the same venue. Friday evening is an uphill road race, Saturday a tough medium category fell race and Sunday a short, fast fell race. Camping is available.

For 'A BIT OF HISTORY', the story of how Bingley Harriers & AC became involved in the 3rd FRA British Relay Championships in 1991 and how this led to the 'Wharfedale TTT' three day event in early July being promoted from 1996 to the present time, go to the About Us pages of this website.
